Role Summary
The CSO is seeking diligent and dedicated individuals to join our team as Field Staff for the upcoming
Household Budget Survey (HBS) and the Survey of Living Conditions (SLC). These critical surveys identify and analyze poverty levels, update the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and collect essential data on household spending, education, health, nutrition, housing, and demographics.
The surveys will run for twelve months, from November 2025 to October 2026. Prior to this, a listing exercise will focus on accurately identifying and recording all residential and non-residential structures within designated areas.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Data Collection
Conduct face-to-face interviews with household members using tablets or similar devices.
Administer questionnaires and accurately record responses.
Ensure data is collected from all designated households within assigned areas.
Maintain detailed records of daily food expenditures.
Adhere to survey protocols and guidelines.
Understand and navigate the boundaries of assigned enumeration districts.
Use maps to identify all buildings within the district; visit every building, dwelling unit, and household.
Make follow-up visits if information cannot be obtained on the first attempt, and revisit households to correct or verify entries as necessary.
Communication & Reporting
Maintain regular communication with field supervisors and team leaders.
Report challenges or concerns to supervisors promptly.
Submit completed questionnaires and progress reports on schedule.
Ensure your supervisor is aware of your residence location for effective coordination.
Attend scheduled meetings and raise any issues as needed.
Data Management & Security
Ensure the confidentiality and security of all collected data.
Maintain records of incentives distributed to participating households.
Follow procedures for data transfer and storage on electronic platforms.
Training & Quality Control
Attend all training sessions and familiarize yourself with survey procedures.
Participate in quality-control checks to ensure data accuracy.
Complete necessary documentation, including records of refusals, if applicable.
Other Responsibilities
Comply with all instructions and guidelines provided by supervisors.
Maintain professional and respectful conduct during household interactions.
Assist with other tasks assigned by supervisors.
Keep all issued equipment (e.g., tablets, chargers, power banks, ID cards) in good condition and return them at the end of the listing exercise.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
At least four CXC passes, including English Language and Mathematics.
Experience in data collection—especially household surveys—is highly valuable.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Effectively communicate with households, explain survey purpose, and build rapport to encourage participation.
Attention to Detail
Meticulous recording of information and strict adherence to survey protocols.
Independence & Reliability
Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage time effectively in the field.
Familiarity with Survey Software
Experience with platforms such as Survey Solutions is preferred for managing data collection and quality.
Language Proficiency
Fluency in the local language is essential for effective communication with households.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Experience with data entry and basic data management.
Experience training and supervising field staff (for supervisory roles).
